Cracking Up At Caswell

Fort Caswell is known for it’s breezy beaches, long-established forts and memorable experiences. Sophomore Remy Merkousko recalls a trip to Caswell during his eighth grade summer as “the most funny/humiliating thing that has ever happened to me.”

Merkousko was asked to speak about his experience at Caswell in front of a crowd of 300 people. When he started to speak, he couldn’t get out his opening line without a voice crack. “Hello, my name is Remy Merkousko” ended in an octave too high, causing the crowd to roar with laughter.

Regardless of the embarrassment, Merkousko did not end his speech. Merkousko continued expressing his love for the bonds he always created during his trips to Caswell.

After the speech, Merkousko came up with a justification to the voice cracks that made it a bit less embarrassing.

“I remember telling people that I had been sick all week just as an excuse,” Merkousko said.

However, the excuse of being sick didn’t stop his friends from teasing him. Merkousko is constantly reminded of that summer.
“All my friends still talk about it and give me crap about it,” Merkousko said.
