Fast and Furious Seven

Hot rods, buff bods and family bonds are the definition of the thrilling action movie The Fast and The Furious Seven. The team of racing movie legends are back. Dom (Vin Diesel), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), Brian (Paul Walker), Tej (Ludacris) and Roman (Tyrese Gibson) get behind the wheels once again. The crew thought they left the criminal mercenary life behind for minivans and suburban living, but they were wrong.

In the last film they took down an international terrorist named Owen Shaw and went their separate ways. But after making a violent visit to the hospital, Shaw’s brother, Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) is out killing the crew one by one for revenge.Furious-7-Deckard-Shaw-fast-and-furious-38386188-843-403

He puts agent Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) in the hospital with major injuries from being thrown out the window, and also kills their friend Han (Sung Kang), as seen in the final moments of the previous film. This sends rage into the minds of viewers who fell in love with Han in Tokyo Drift.

To make things worse, a Somali terrorist called Jakarde (Djimon Hounsou), and a shady government official called “Mr. Nobody” (Kurt Russel) are both competing to obtain a computer program called God’s Eye, that can turn any technological device into a weapon.

Dom must work together with his team to stop Shaw and retrieve the God’s Eye program– while protecting the inventor– in the midst of a power struggle between terrorist and the United States government.

The theme throughout the movie is family and recognizing  Paul Walker, who passed away late 2013. In between skyscraper jumps and parachuting with cars, the family bonds were emphasized. Letty gets her memories back and realizes she married Dom. Also, Brian’s wife, Mia (Jordana Brewster) has one child and a surprise baby on the way. 0friends

Unfortunately, the cliche lines by Dom such as, “I don’t have friends, I have family,” were a bit of an over-kill.

However, Walker was one of my favorite actors and the emotion of the movie was respectful and honorable. The last few scenes were Brian (Walker) playing on the beach with his wife and son as the team watched in admiration. Right before the credits, Dom is driving and Brian pulls up in his mqdefaultinfamous white Toyota Supra.

We hear Dom’s voice say they both “lived life at a quarter mile,” and this is why they are brothers. This is cut between scenes of Brian through the whole series and everything they have been through.

Dom looks over and says Brian will always be his brothers, and this was a tear jerker for me. The two continue driving until they finally part ways at a fork in the road, with Brian driving into the sunset.

In spite of some poor acting by Johnson and Diesel, the movie and its message was a success. The explosions and car stunts were exhilarating for the action junkies and the film was sprinkled with delightful humor for everyone. I would definitely recommend everyone to see this and say their final goodbyes to
