Tomato Pie

Imagine walking into a restaurant, and your eyes automatically catch the twinkly lights, gently strung overhead and above the tables.  You smell the sweet aroma of fresh picked basil being chopped.  A waiter passes your table with an enormous pizza pie. You’re ready to order.  This is Tomato Pie.

Tomato Pie is located in Raleigh at Crabtree Valley mall.  It seems, at first, like an upscale restaurant.  In reality, the atmosphere is cool and collective.  It’s a cozy place to relax and grab a delicious bite after all the shopping and walking around you’ve been doing.

You can order anything from homemade soups to a variety of classic Italian dishes.  The restaurant is home to some of the best pasta and wood fired pizza’s in the Triangle.  Everything comes with a side of warm garlic bread served with fresh real butter.

When I walk into Tomato Pie, I instantly hear the clank of glasses being touched against each other -“Salute”!  I feel as if I’m back in Italy having a home cooked meal.

This time I’m in the mood for creamy fettuccine alfredo with grilled chicken, but I’m torn between the fettucine or a margherita pizza with a fresh basil in the sauce, and hot, fresh mozzarella

Don’t forget the dessert.  A variety of homemade Italian desserts, pastries or ice cream.  Some of their most popular treats are Affogato- which is two scoops of gelato (Italian ice cream) topped with a shot of espresso.

Another favorite, the cannoli, consists of homemade tube-shaped shells of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy filling sure to entice your tastebuds.

It doesn’t matter what you order because everything they serve is fresh and delicious which makes you want more.  The best part is, it’s right in the mall.  You can take a load off after shopping, or even if you are in the mood for something a little different and decadent, it will surely please.
