Directions

Cupcakes

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine cake mix, water, oil and eggs in large bowl. Beat with electric mixer at medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour into prepared cupcake trays with wrappers. Bake 26 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean of crumbs. Cool cakes on wire rack for 25 minutes. Remove cakes from pans and cool completely.

Icing and Dirt

Mix the icing and green food coloring in a bowl until it is your desired color of grass. Smear it gently onto the cupcake, then, with your knife tap the icing gently and pull up. This will make the icing stand up and look like grass. Put oreos in a large ziplock bag (You can just use the cookies and not the cream but I personally think it looks like little maggots), and crush them until a majority of them are fine pieces. It is okay to have a few bigger pieces. Gently place the crumbs in the middle of the cupcake.

Zombie Hands and Gravestones

This part takes a little bit of creativity. Using the small caramel squares. Begin by squeezing one side until it looks small enough to be your zombie’s wrist/arms. Then, flatten the other side until it is a ¼ inch thick. Next cut the the other edge of the flattened side so what is remaining is the size of a dime. With the excess caramel, twist and mold small fingers and attach them gently (the difficult and creative part). Using a toothpick, put creases on the small fingers so the curve in a little. Finally, you will very carefully squeeze the hand until it looks like a zombie hand reaching for brains. Put it in the freezer for 5 minutes so they firm up. For the gravestone, break your cookies in half and right RIP on the with white icing. Place the gravestones near the edge of your cupcakes, pushing them in just a bit so they stand up. Last but not least, take the hands out of the freezer and push them into the center of the cupcakes and enjoy your Halloween Treat!
